Aggregate record of men serving with Rhode Island regiments or units organized for service against Confederate forces, 1861 – 1865. Twenty nine regimental volumes bound Descriptive Books or Muster Rolls Transferred detail name, rank, age, residence or nativity, when, where & by whom enlisted, term of service, marital status, occupation & remarks respective of appointments, promotions, demotions or transfers, furloughs, death or wounds received, date & location of discharge, etc. Includes First Regiment of Light Artillery (Batteries A - H), First Regiment of Detached Militia, First & Tenth Light Batteries, Second, Fourth, Seventh, Ninth, Tenth, Eleventh & Twelve Regiments of Infantry, Third, Fifth & Fourteenth Regiments of Heavy Artillery, First, Second, Third Regiments & Seventh Squadron of Cavalry & Rhode Island Hospital Guards. Additional eleven ledgers belonging to Companies D, E, H & I, First Detached Militia; Companies B & K, Second Infantry, Companies A, G & I Fourth Infantry, Companies B & H, Ninth Infantry & Company L, Tenth Infantry bound Company Descriptive Books. Latter volumes providing additional information concerning the nativity, hair & eye color, complexion & height of men enrolled as well as post war notations respective of death, residence, etc.
