Abstract: Records consist of one (1) final copy (on archival materials) of the RI Historic Resources Archive Documentation that was prepared for the Kingston Station Railroad Bridge No. 372 by the Rhode Island Department of Transportation’s consultant, Edward Connors and Associates.

Scope and Content: Records consist of one (1) final copy (on archival materials) of the RI Historic Resources Archive Documentation that was prepared for the Kingston Station Railroad Bridge No. 372 by the Rhode Island Department of Transportation’s consultant, Edward Connors and Associates. Kingston Station Railroad Bridge No. 372 is significant on the local level under National Register Criterion A for its association with the Emergency Relief Act of 1935, a major public relief program of the Great Depression. An important aspect of this program was the elimination of dangerous grade crossings in the early years of the automobile era. It is also significant for its association with the development of West Kingston Village and its location at a former grade crossing of Kingstown Road and the tracks of the New York, New Haven, and Hartford Railroad. Kingston Station Railroad Bridge No. 372 is significant on the state level under National Register Criterion C as the only example of a multi-span state highway bridge incorporating combined reinforced concrete T-beam and concrete-encased steel beam construction. The bridge was determined eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places through consensus between the Rhode Island State Historic Preservation Office (RISHPO) and the FHWA on July 30, 2012. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), in cooperation with the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT), is developing design plans for replacement of Kingston Station Railroad Bridge No. 372. The structure has been found to be structurally deficient and has been proposed for replacement. The current condition of the bridge requires interim repairs until the design for final replacement has been completed. Prior to these repairs, RIDOT and RISHPO have requested RIHRA documentation.
